Weihnachtskleid // Christmas dress

Nachdem ich vor einigen Wochen eher zufällig entdeckt hatte wie viel Spaß es mir beim Nähen macht selber zu dekorieren und gestalten hatte ich mir vorgenommen mein nächstes Projekt ganz anders als sonst anzugehen, weitestgehend ohne vorgegebenen Schnitt und mit viel Zeit für eigene Ideen. In den letzten Wochen habe ich also mehr oder weniger planvoll an meinem Weihnachtskleid genäht – und wie viel Spaß mir das gemacht hat! Den lila/flieder-farbenen Wollstoff hatte ich im Frühjahr als Reststück gekauft und dazu noch diverse Bänder und Borten zusammengesucht. Ausgangspunkt des Rockes war mein üblicher, am Bund gekräuselter, improvisierter Dirndl-“Schnitt”, die ich aber mit einem in horizontale Falten gelegten Mittelstück variiert habe. Vorder- und Rückteil sind mit den gleichen Bändern aber in unterschiedlicher Form dekoriert. Das Cape basiert auf Sew Vera Venus wunderbaren Mini Cape Schnitt (vielen Dank dafür!). Ich habe den Wollstoff mit leichter Bügeleinlage verstärkt und an Kragen und Bund Spitze angenäht. Sowohl Rock als auch Cape sind cremefarben gefüttert und fühlen sich darum ungewohnt luxuriös an – meistens verzichte ich auf diesen Schritt. Die Knöpfe am Cape werden mit einfachen Posamentverschlüssen geschlossen, geknotet aus dem grünen Band der Rockrückseite. Aus einem kleinen Reststück Wollstoff habe ich zu guter Letzt noch ein Stirnband genäht und es wiederum mit Borte vom Rock verziert. Unter dem Weihnachtsbaum werde ich nun also als eine Art Vintage-Lolita/Alice sitzen – vermutlich nicht das Schlechteste was passieren konnte?

After I recently found out how much I enjoy to more consciously “design” my sewing projects I decided to approach my next project in a different way, more or less without a fixed pattern and with lots of time to come up with my own ideas. In the last weeks I sewed my christmas dress with these principles in mind – and it was so much fun! I had bought the lilac wool last spring and combined it with different ribbons and pieces of lace. The skirt is based on my usual dirndl “pattern” but I added a horizontal pleated part. Back and front are decorated with the same ribbons but in a different manner. For the cape I used Sew Vera Venus wonderful mini cape pattern (many many thanks for this!). I used a light iron-on interfacing and added lace to the collar and the seams. Both the skirt and the cape are lined with a cream colored fabric, I usually skip this part but it feels quite luxurious. The cape’s buttons are closed with a simple frog fastening (is this the correct term? I am referring to this kind of closure.), I made it with a piece of ribbon from the skirts back. I finally made a headband from a leftover wool  scrap and adorned it with another piece of ribbon. As a result I will  look like a vintage Lolita/Alice on christmas eve – not the worst thing that could have happened?

Noch ein paar Worte zu den Photos die wir heute im Kakteenhaus der Kölner Flora gemacht haben: ich habe das Outfit versucht möglichst simpel mit weiß und schwarz zu kombinieren und es mit niedlichen Hexenschuhen kombiniert die ich schon seit vielen Jahren habe. Belustigt hatte ich vor ein paar Tagen entdeckt dass ich sogar Nagellack in der passenden Farbe besitze (Essie Lilacism falls es jemand interessiert). Ich weiß nicht ob ich je einmal ein so gut aufeinander abgestimmtes Ensemble getragen habe?

A few words about the photos that we took today at the botanical garden in Cologne: I tried to keep the outfit simple and combined the skirt and cape with only black and white and chose these cute and slightly witchy shoes that I already bought years ago. I was very amused when I found out a few days ago that I even own a matching nail lacquer (Essie Lilacism, in case someone is interested). I am not sure if I ever wore a more coordinated outfit than today?
