Simplicity 2207

Ich hatte mir auch die vergangene Woche freigenommen um Zeit für ein größeres Nähprojekt zu haben – ein viktorianisch anmutendes Steampunk-Kostüm von Simplicity, das aus Jacke, Rock und Turnüre besteht. Vor einigen Wochen hatte ich in Belgien grüne Seide bei Maison des Tissus und beige Spitze bei Maison Dorée gekauft (ohne den Schnitt dabei zu haben – ich bin so froh dass beides haargenau gereicht hat). Der Schnitt begeistert mich sehr – es ist das erste Mal das bei mir alle Teile wirklich punktgenau zusammenpassen (und ich schneide eigentlich immer sehr präzise zu) und auch die Anleitungen waren ohne größere Grübeleien zu verstehen. Ich habe den Rock etwas kürzer gemacht um das Kostüm zumindest ein wenige alltagstauglicher zu machen, ansonsten aber nichts verändert, ich werde lediglich den Rock noch etwas enger machen. Fehlt nun nur noch eine Gelegenheit Ausführen, heute haben wir (bei großer Hitze) einen kurzen Spaziergang gemacht aber ich denke das Kostüm verlangt nach eleganteren Anlässen.

I took the last week off to have time for another sewing project and decided to tackle this wonderful victorian era inspired steampunk costume, consisting of jacket, skirt and bustle. I bought dark green dupioni silk in Brussels at Maison des Tissus and beige lace at Maison dorée a few weeks ago (I forgot to take the pattern with me then and was so lucky to have bought just enough of both!). The pattern is incredible – it was the first time for me that all patterns parts matched perfectly (and I am always very careful with cutting them out) and the instructions are  easy to follow.  I decided to shorten the skirt to make the costume a bit more suitable for daily wear and I will probably take it in a bit but I changed nothing else. I am very happy with the finished costume and am eager to wear it again soon – it was very hot today and we just took a short walk to make some photos.

Simplicity 4912

Mein letzte Woche war wirklich stressig – leider blieb keine Zeit für Photos und den Blog. Außerdem ist meine  Kamera kaputt, sie funktioniert nur noch gelegentlich und wenn man ihr gut zuredet. Heute habe ich dann in den sauren Apfel gebissen und mir (auf Raten) eine neue Kamera gekauft, diese hier. Nun werde ich zwar wegen des Preises einige schlaflose Nächte habe aber die Kamera ist toll, meine Güte! In den nächsten Tagen werden ich also mein Blog-Layout ein bißchen überarbeiten und den Umgang mit der neuen Kamera üben, dann gibt es hoffentlich bald viele neue Posts! Vorerst hier aber noch mein neuestes Nähprojekt, gestern im botanischen Garten in Köln aufgenommen (mit Hilfe einer sehr launischen Canon Eos 1000d :-)

The last week was very busy for me  – hence my absence here. Also my camera is out of order, it works occasionally but it’s super annoying. I bit the bullet today and bought a new camera today, this one. Now I will probably have some sleepless nights because of it’s price but boy, is this camera great. I will update my blog layout a bit in the next few days and will also learn how to use my new camera, so there will hopefully be a lot of new posts soon. For now here a few photos of my latest sewing project that we took yesterday in the botanical garden in Cologne (with the help of my very erratically behaving Canon EOS 1000d :-)

Der Schnitt ist etwas untypisch für mich, ein Simplicity Sub-Teen Schnitt aus den frühen 60ern den ich einfach sehr niedlich fand. Ich hatte erst Bedenken wegen der kleinen Größe, es passt aber erfreulicherweise einwandfrei. Beide Teile gingen einfach und schnell zu nähen, besonders der Wickelrock aus Dupionseide war sehr schnell fertig. Der Baumwollstoff im Jugenstilmuster ist von Liberty, ich hatte ihn aus Paris mitgebracht. Wir haben fast einen Nachmittag dafür gebraucht,  Schnitt- und Stoffmuster miteinander abzugleichen waren aber glücklicherweise erfolgreich, die Muster passen überall wunderbar aneinander.

The pattern that I used is somewhat unusual for me, it’s a very sweet Simplicity Sub-Teen pattern from the early 60’s. I was a bit afraid that it might be too small but it fits perfectly. The skirt and blouse were super easy and fast to sew, especially the wrap around skirt (I used dupioni silk for it). The cotton fabric with the art noveau pattern is by Liberty, I had bought it in Paris. We spent a whole afternoon matching the patterns – it was so much work but luckily successful.

Ich habe den Schnitt kaum verändert, lediglich die breiten Ärmelaufschläge durch Schrägband aus der Seide ersetzt und die Knöpfe durch unsichtbare Druckknöpfe um das Muster des Stoffes nicht zu stören. Ich bin wirklich stolz, wie ordentlich all die kleinen Details geworden sind! Eine Lektion habe ich allerdings wieder lernen müssen, nämlich die Bänder eines Wickelrockes wirklich sorgfältig anzunähen – mein Rock hat sich am Wochenende mitten auf einer belebten Einkaufsstrasse verselbstständigt und ist fast komplett heruntergefallen… :-)

I changed the original pattern only very little – I finished the sleeves with bias binding and used snaps instead of buttons. I am really proud of how neat everything looks! I learned one important lesson though: to attach the straps of wraparound skirts really carefully – I accidentally flashed a crowded shopping boulevard yesterday afternoon… (-:
