Was für eine lange, lange Blogpause! Ich habe nicht geplant über zwei Monate nichts zu posten, bin einfach etwas rastlos und unmotiviert in Bezug auf den Blog und seine Richtung. Ich habe auch zu lange nichts genäht, vor allem aus Mangel an wirklich schönen Stoffen, das doch eher magere Angebot in Köln macht mich nicht glücklich und in Paris werde ich erst wieder im Sommer sein. Für die Näharbeiten die mich wirklich interessieren (fantastische Kostüme à la Angela Clayton) fehlt mir die Energie und Material und Alltagskleidung zu nähen interessiert mich im Moment nicht besonders. Eine kleine Sinnkrise, also :-) Ich habe allerdings nicht vor den Blog einschlafen zu lassen und will versuchen wieder regelmäßiger zu photographieren und schreiben und einfach mal zu schauen in welche Richtung es mich treibt. Es ist auch nicht so dass ich in den letzten Monaten und Wochen nichts getan hätte – ich habe viel Zeit damit verbracht meine wunderbare Wohnung einzurichten, Kuchen zu backen und Pflanzen zu pflegen & zu arrangieren, hier zum Einstieg also einige Bilder der Dinge die mir im Moment Freude bereiten. What a very long blog break! I had not planned to remain silent for more than two months, I am just feeling slightly restless and unmotivated in regard of the blog and what I am doing here. I have not sewed in quite some time, mostly because of lack of beautiful fabrics, I am not really happy with what Cologne fabric stores offer and my next trip to Paris is only scheduled for summer. I also lack the energy for the kind of sewing projects that really interest me (fantastic costumes like the ones that Angela Clayton does) and I am somewhat bored by sewing everyday clothes. A little identity crisis, in other words :-) I do not plan to abandon this blog though and will try to update it more often and see what direction it takes. Other than with sewing and blogging I was quite productive in the last months, I spent a lot of time with decorating and furnishing my flat, baking cakes and taking care of and arranging flowers and plants. Here below some snapshots of the things that make me happy right now. À bientot!
Im Winter habe ich diese antike Bank in Form von zwei Hunden ersteigert und sie wandert im Moment in verschiedenen Varianten durch meine Wohnung bis sie ihren Platz gefunden haben wird. Eigentlich ist sie zu schade um als Blumenständer zu dienen aber da ich im Frühling angefangen habe Freude an selbstgebundenen Sträußen zu finden musste sie ein paar Mal zweckentfremdet werden // In winter I bought this amazing antique wooden bench in the form of two dogs at an auction which is currently still wandering around my flat until I will have found it’s perfect place. The bench is much too pretty on its own to serve as a jardinière but since I discovered how much I like to arrange flowers this spring it has served this purpose for some times.
Ich habe schon lange davon geträumt Raum dafür zu haben illustrierte Bücher aufstellen zu können und mir im Winter zu diesem Zweck diese Borde angebracht, es macht mir so viel Freude sie immer wieder neu zu arrangieren! Das zweite Bild zeigt den wunderschönen Nähmaschinenschrank meiner Großmutter die ich vor kurzem geschenkt bekommen habe, zusammen mit Schachteln über Schachteln von Nähzubehör. Sie hat die Maschine im Winter des Jahres 1960 gekauft (der Beleg lag der Maschine bei!) und sehr gut gepflegt, sie läuft unglaublich leise und wird mir hoffentlich ein wenig Freude am Nähen zurückbringen. Die Ober- und Unterfadenspannung ist noch nicht ganz ideal aber falls ich das nicht selbst gelöst bekomme werde ich sie wohl einfach mal zu einem Spezialisten bringen. // It was a long wish of mine to have some space to decorate the illustrated books that I am collecting and this winter I finally installed some wooden boards for this purpose. The second image shows the beautiful sewing machine that I recently was gifted, along with boxes over boxes of sewing supplies. The machine was bought by my grandmother in the winter of 1960 (she kept the receipt!) and is still running fine, I was super amazed by how quiet the motor is. The thread tension is not ideal and I might have to bring the machine to a specialist to get this sorted out but I truly hope that this gift will bring back the joy of sewing to me.
Zum ersten Mal seit Jahren besitze ich wieder einen richtigen Ofen & backe und koche dementsprechend gerade ohne Unterlass. Hier sind zwei Kuchen die ich in der letzten Zeit gebacken habe, der erste ist für meine 85 Jahre alt gewordene Kollegin (sie liebt Lavendel also habe ich welchen aus Marzipan geformt) und der zweite ist ein Dankeschön für einen Elektriker der mir einige Dinge in der Wohnung angebracht hat (ich habe ihn mit einem Stromkreis aus Fondant dekoriert) // For the first time in years I own a proper stove and I am baking and cooking a lot right now. Here are two snapshots of cakes that I made in the last weeks, the first one is for the 85 birthday of a beloved colleague (she loves lavender and so I sculpted a little bouquet of marzipan) and the second one was a thank-you gift for an electrician that helped me install some things in my flat (I created a electric circuit out if fondant).
Meine Wohnung hat eine kleine Dachterasse und ich bemühe mich im Moment nach Kräften sie zu dem überbordend blühenden Paradies zu machen von dem ich schon seit Jahren träume. // My flat has a little rooftop terrace and I am currently working on making it the lush paradise that I dreamt of for some years.
Da das Wetter langsam etwas schöner wird besuche ich gerade viele Floh- und Antikmärkte und habe dort beispielsweise die kleine Plüschkatze und den hysterischen antiken Deckenlüster gefunden. // Since the weather is getting a little better I am currently visiting flea- and antique markets quite frequently and bought the little plush cat and the hysterical antique chandelier amongst other things.
I hatte flauschigen Besuch für eine Weile & habe wieder bemerkt wie gerne ich ein eine eigene Katze hätte. Irgendwann mal… :-) // I had this little fluffy friend over for some time and realized again how much I would like to have a cat for myself. Some day… :-)
Noch mehr Sträuße und getrocknete Blumen aus dem vorletzten Sommer, ich muss mir noch überlegen was ich damit mache. // Even more bouquets and also some dried and pressed flowers from the summer before last, I am still unsure what I will do with those.
Eine der Dinge die ich in meine neuen Wohnung am meisten genieße ist die Menge an Tageslicht und Sonne die sie bekommt, selbst im Winter. Ein Jugendstilschränkchen das ich besitze hat überdies die Eigenschaft mit einer gebrochenen Glasscheibe Prismen zu erzeugen wenn die Nachmittagssonne darauf scheint, es ist so hübsch! // One of the things that I enjoy most in my new flat is the abundance of sun light that it gets, even in the winter time. Additonally I own a little art nouveau cabinet that has a broken piece of window that creates prisms in the afternoon light, it’s so pretty!
